Stay Safe, Stay Healthy: St. Francis Prepares for a Cholera-Free School Year!

As we welcome our students back to St. Francis for a new term filled with learning and growth, it’s important to remind everyone of the steps we can take to prevent the spread of cholera in our community.

What is Cholera?

Cholera is a bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration. It’s easily spread through contaminated water and food, so staying vigilant and practicing good hygiene is crucial.

Our Commitment to Safeguard Your Health:

St. Francis Secondary School is taking proactive measures to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all. Here’s what we’re doing:

  • Enhanced Sanitation: We’re regularly disinfecting water tanks, toilets, and common areas with chlorine solution. Handwashing stations with soap and clean water are readily available throughout the school.
  • Food Safety Guidelines: All food vendors and school catering services are instructed to adhere to strict hygiene practices and proper food handling techniques.
  • Awareness and Education: We’ll be conducting workshops and information sessions for students and staff to highlight cholera prevention techniques and symptoms to watch out for.

Your Personal Role in Prevention:

Remember, everyone has a part to play in keeping cholera at bay! Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Practice proper hand hygiene: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after handling anything potentially contaminated.
  • Drink only safe water: Only drink bottled or treated water. Avoid drinking directly from taps or open sources of water.
  • Practice safe food hygiene: Eat only cooked and well-prepared food. Be cautious about consuming street food or raw fruits and vegetables.
  • Report any symptoms immediately. If you or someone you know experiences severe diarrhoea and dehydration, report it to the school nurse or medical staff immediately.

Working Together for a Healthy School Year:

By working together and upholding these simple precautions, we can create a safe and healthy environment for everyone at St. Francis Secondary School. Remember, prevention is key! Let’s make this new term a shining example of collective responsibility and community well-being.
