Frequently asked questions

All Lower Junior classes are taught predominantly by their form teachers and teaching assistants within their own classrooms. The exceptions are games, languages, ICT, libraries, and music, all of which are taught by specialist staff.
Learning at St. Francis extends beyond the confines of the classroom. We believe in experiential learning and providing opportunities for students to develop their talents and contribute to the wider community.

Does SFSS have sports teams?

Sweat, Spirit, and Sun-Kissed Fields: Sports at St. Francis Secondary School

At St. Francis Secondary School, the sun doesn’t just shine upon the classrooms; it illuminates the vibrant world of sports, an integral part of our students’ lives. Here, sports aren’t just an extracurricular activity; they’re woven into the fabric of our school culture, shaping not just bodies but also minds and character.

What is the student/teacher ratio?

Individual Attention Flourishes at St. Francis: Small Class Sizes, Big Opportunities

At St. Francis Secondary School in Malole, Northern Zambia, education isn’t about being lost in a crowd. We believe in the power of individual attention, and that’s reflected in our remarkable teacher-pupil ratio of 1:20. With approximately 720-750 students, this means an average class size of just 35-37 students, a far cry from the larger classrooms often found in other schools.

What are primary entry points?

Opening Doors to Knowledge and Faith: Entry Enrollment at St. Francis Secondary School

At St. Francis Secondary School in Malole, Northern Zambia, we believe in welcoming bright minds regardless of specific entry requirements. While we value academic potential, we prioritize an open-door policy, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Open to All, Guided by Values.

What is the birthday cut-off?

For many decades St. Francis has dominated other Northern Province schools in basketball. Twice it was the overall champion in school basketball tournaments in the country.

Do you offer a discount for multiple?

St. Francis Secondary School: Striking for Excellence, Rewarding Achievement

While St. Francis Secondary School is currently unable to offer general discounts on tuition fees, we are deeply committed to recognising and supporting exceptional academic achievement. At the heart of this commitment lies our unique scholarship programme for G10 top scorers.

Each year, the student who earns the highest marks at G10 automatically qualifies for a full scholarship, covering tuition fees for the remainder of their senior education at St. Francis. This prestigious award is a testament to our belief in nurturing talent and providing opportunities for bright young minds to reach their full potential, regardless of financial constraints.

Do you offer Financial Assistance?

Yes, the school offers financial assistance to children coming from underprivileged families. There is a scheme called ABANA BASAMBILILE, which is sponsored by well-wishers outside the school.  There is also an OVC fund that comes from the contributions of all parents and guardians of all students at St. Francis. This scheme covers every child who loses their parent or guardian while they are still pursuing their education here. The PTA OVC account will cater for such children until they complete their junior or senior education. This is also extended to other vulnerable children identified by the administration.
